Jennifer Kim is Vice President of Client Relations and HUB Director for Jamail & Smith Construction. Ms. Kim served on the Austin City Council 2005-2008 where she chaired the Council Subcommittee on M/WBE and Small Business Enterprise. Ms. Kim created the Affordable Housing Incentives Task Force, which successfully brought together developers and advocates to find ways to increase affordable housing in Austin. She also led efforts to secure $5 million in bond funding for the new Asian American Resource Center in Austin. Before being elected to Council, she served on the city’s Social Equity Commission, Commission on Immigrant Affairs, and the Census 2000 Complete Count Committee.
From 1998 to 2002, Ms. Kim worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration as an economic development specialist and on the executive management team. During this period, Ms. Kim helped deliver $50 million in grant each year to Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas to create jobs and attract private investment to economically distressed communities.
As a legislative aide for State Senator Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo) from 1993-1995, she protected disadvantaged and minority communities from environmental threats including a sludge farm, a low-level radioactive waste facility, and a coal strip mining project. She was also involved in preserving water quality in San Antonio and Central Texas through protection of the Edwards Aquifer.
When her parents worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, she lived in Germany, South Korea and Japan.
She currently serves on the Capital Area Economic Development District board, the leadership advisory board for the Asian American Resource Center and the Network of Asian American Organizations.
Ms. Kim has a Master in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and a BA in Political Science from Texas A&M University.
